Surf Music

Surf music/rock is fun to listen to, and that’s putting it very lightly, but I haven’t been really exposed to it properly until now!

Our new neighbour’s husband is in the band called the von Drats. They are a surf/garage band that, and I’ve only seen them through their site/youtube, make you want to get up and dance (except me because I am VERY BAD at it, just ask my wife or any family member). The only other exposure to surf/garage band music of course is from the legendary surg/garage band Big Kahuna! They were my college buddies who were just way too entertaining to watch live, that’s why I video taped them for all to see them in their glorious live rituals! They just had FUN, that was their secret!

A fine example of surf/garage band music by the von Drats!

This type of music is truly fun for the whole family! My mom, dad and even aunt Helen can listen to it and dance. Hell even I, the rhythmically challenged, can dance to it. You know the more I listen to this music I can’t help but feel myself getting pulling into it’s unique trance!

I just thought that some of you may not have heard of this style so I wanted to expose this life altering experience! I know that there are some new converts to this newer form of religion, as we can recently see!

Goddo

If you lived in Canada during the mid 70’s - 80’s then this band needs no introduction. For the un-initiated Goddo was a Canadian hard rock band that rocked this country like no other for their on and off stage antics! For just a little taste of these guys, check this anthem called So Walk on, out for size!

This song brings back so many fond memories for me. I played this one for a little bit with my old band called Deuce, but we never played it live … if memory sure me correctly. For all you musicians out there, you will understand the importance of this one.

This song was the very first song that I played on my beloved HiWatt! I was looking for 11 on the volume control but there wasn’t one on it. Boy, My old Hiwatt surely is missed! It’s the one thing I wish I still had in my collection!

These guys were gods back then. I heard their tunes everywhere. They played everywhere and were rock royalty in their day. They were one the great Canadian rock bands that I wish I had the privilege to have seen live. They even had the distinct honour in 1979 to be the first to be stereo TV/radio simulcast of a concert at Maple Leafs Gardens! I was in grade 8 that year and remember that show on TV. It still sends shivers up and down my arms remembering this show. I would have done anything to have been there that historical night in Toronto!

Has anyone out there had a memorable Goddo concert that they’d love to share? I know I’d love to heard it!

So Rock on!

Montreal Tickets - Concerts, hockey games and more

I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine, and he said he just picked up some Montreal Canadiens Tickets and wanted to know if I wanted to go with him. Ha, ha. He knows that I’m an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan and they will not be playing the leafs that night to boot! Oh, those crazy Les Canadiens de Montréal fans.

As he babbled on endlessly about the history of these guys, I just sat there and had to bit my tongue, or as the French say peu ma langue. He went on about his many visits to promised land and how beautiful their new Bell Centre stadium - he loves it.

As the conversation went on, a little bit more then one sided in my mind, I had to ask him where he got the tickets. Then after hearing the clicking of his mouse he said 2tickets.ca. He said he was searching this afternoon and happened to stumble upon their site. He asked if we had a computer on nearby, he is more then well aware that we are always on line, and wanted me to check out the site.

As luck would have it, my wife was on the notebook and our little puppy had to go outside to … you know … do her thing. This allowed me to check it out and it is a very interesting site.

On their main page you see easy to use tabs so that you can easily search for tickets for concerts, shows and sports. I’ve been to a couple of sites this guy has sent me to and they are often too flashy, hard to navigate and leaving you frustrated after a while. Not this one.

I noticed Madonna Montreal tickets and a bit lower down I saw Celine Dion Montreal tickets. I brought it up, but there was one of those pregnant pauses in the conversation. I thought my mother would love to check both of them out. She is more hip then you think.

I went to see how easy it was to sell tickets and it was really straight forward and with no distractions going on this page. I guess I’m just one of those people who like things simple.

The Sports tab was easy. If in Montreal, I’d love to see the Alouettes de Montréal (Montreal Alouettes) at their new stadium. This site has simple seat viewing that even my dad could figure out, nice.
