So kidz, who is your favorite modern drummer?

I know that this blog is for the enrichment and the celebration of guitar and guitarist, but let’s not forget the ones who back them up on their musical journey.

The past ones are easy to me! John Bonham, Buddy Rich, ,Carl Palmer and Gary McCracken of Max Webster are just a few to come to mind!

So who are the modern drummers that come up in your mind?

I just found out the other day that Leonard Cohen made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! So a belated congrats to another great Canadian song writer, Leonard Cohen!

My wife is a big fan of his work and I have to admit to you all that I know of some of his work, but that’s it.

Being a musician, I am more in tune with the composition of a song then the words itself. I understand that the words hold, to most listeners, it’s true essence and meaning. To me though, it’s the sound that is the driving force behind it.

While playing live I focus mostly on the guitar parts than what comes out of my mouth. I’ve never written any words to any of the songs I made in the past and probably never will in the future. They just do not move me or grab my attention like the beat does.

So hats off to Mr. Cohen and to his powerful lyrics and let’s hope he might rub off on my writing abilities, or lack there of!

It’s nice to see that the great Canadian super group called “The Band” was finally recognized for it’s role in Rocking Roll! This was done at a invite only event in L.A. this past Saturday.

Even though they are full members of Canadian Music Hall Of Fame, Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and has the honour of being called Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, this award shows that The Band’s influence still resonates to this day.

In my eyes, The Band is a group that truly will last forever. They were the most faithful to their art without selling out to anyone. God Bless The Band!
