The Tour de Canada

February 25, 2008 by Chris

To all Tour de France purists everywhere, this is not a joke! It’s called Ride the Lobster and when I first came across this article I thought it was a joke for sure. I guess this is our version of the Holy Grail of cycling.

It is a international unicycle race held in Nova Scotia Canada. The event will take place Monday, June 16 to Friday, June 20 2008. There will be 25 teams entered, consisting of 3 riders per team. It will take only the most dedicated unicyclist’s from all over the world to finish this event. The winning team, of this grueling 5 day 800 km. event, will go home with a rock lobster of a prize totaling $10,000.00 (Cdn).

I thought that only Shriners and guys in the circus drove these contraptions. So for all you die hard unicyclist’s out there, forgive my ignorance!

So if your team thinks it’s got what it takes to cycle with the big boys/girls, hats off to ya.

Keep on Jammin'(or cycling?)

I am First Wheel with Ride The Lobster, the main organizer. To race 200km each day for 5-days on a unicycle will be a challenge. Seeing 100+ riders from several countries in a 20-25kph wobble will make great media footage. And you thought mountain-unicyclists were nuts!

We plan to have a podcast program on Ride The Lobster. Maybe a free, original 10-20 second guitar lick/sequence, as an intro and outro to celebrate the event and to promote your site could be seen as fair trade. Any creatives who out there?

    Cheers, from Nova Scotia Canada.
Ride The Lobster “… the closest thing to the Tour de France for unicyclists”.
