How to play Neon from John Mayer

June 4, 2008 by Chris

This is the best interpretation of playing Neon from John Mayer on the acoustic guitar. This is the video that I used to play it and I hope that you work on it, get the chance to play it live and most of all enjoy it!

This is the version that he plays that really got me hooked on it in the first place.

Below is the video that helped me, and I know it will help you, figure out this tune and play it live! Enjoy.

It’s right on the edge of being a bit too busy to sing over, but a nice lick nonetheless. Mayer is a very talented dude…both writing and performing.

Hey free guitar music, thanx for being the first one to reply to this post!

I can’t emphasize enough how talented this guy is to anybody that will listen to me. Have you tried pulling this song off because you a player in your own right? I love to slap with my thumb and this song is an outlet to help me bring it to a wider audience.

I do have problems changing or re-learning how to pick the way he does. I’m more classically trained and it hard to un-learn what you’ve been doing for countless years, do you know what I mean?

I think that he takes his lead from a Elizabeth Cotton , whom I have written about before. If I ever get a chance to talk to him that is a question that I’d ask him!

If you check out that post, tell us what you think of her style and has it influenced your style or is it way too different a technique from what you use?
