Big Kahuna DVD coming soon

July 5, 2008 by Chris

I just rec’d an e-mail from my college days and oh did it bring back some crazy memories! Ernie was in this make-you-feel-good band called Big Kahuna, he was the drummer and the brains behind this venture.

They basically played a surf, garage, Stones and Rocky Horror Picture Show(complete with vintage costumes on stage) style of music. They played in and around the Toronto area to more then enthusiastic crowds! One time my brother-in-law/ex-roommate were at one of their shows near Bloor and Spadina in Toronto and as they were taking the stage and getting ready for their set, we stood up on our chairs and clanged our beer bottles the opening beat to the Rolling Stones Honky Tonk Woman. The crowd soon joined in and the boys just started playing the song! What an evening it was!

During those years I took a fancy to the video camera. I soon started to video tape the band’s shows and it turned out great! I later gave them the originals and that was it. Years later we all wondered off and lost touch. Ernie moved to Vancouver BC and he found this site and wrote to me. He said that he had copies of everything I taped and they are on their way to me as we speak!

When I get my little hands on them I’m post them on this site and I’ll let you judge the band on their merits … and their costumes too!

Keep on jammin’
