Canada’s Dan Hill

February 18, 2008 by Chris

I must have been living under a rock or something like that for a while now, but I just found out that Dan Hill is Canadian. Plus, he lives in my neck of the woods in a area called the “The Beach” or some call it “The Beaches”. As it turns out, there are tons of musicians who live or lived in our area.

I found this out by reading my Maclean’s Magazine on the Feb., 25th, 2008 version. The article was written by Dan Hill and his son. It was about his son’s friend, and how he got in trouble with the law. It told the tale of how this person almost destroyed his family and how they got through it in one piece.

After reading this article before going to work the other day, I asked people at work if had met him and some of the older nurses said yes they had. He was just like a everyday guy with looks that kill. He started out his career playing in little venues like The Riverboat in downtown Toronto which most of the staff remember seeing him play there.

I like some of his music but not enough to go out and buy all of his albums. It would be neat to see him live and maybe go backstage and chat or jam, but I can say that I’m not that big of a fan. I just thought I’d tell you about this one.

Keep on Jammin’

The Band gets a Grammy lifetime achievement

February 11, 2008 by Chris

It’s nice to see that the great Canadian super group called “The Band” was finally recognized for it’s role in Rocking Roll! This was done at a invite only event in L.A. this past Saturday.

Even though they are full members of Canadian Music Hall Of Fame, Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and has the honour of being called Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, this award shows that The Band‘s influence still resonates to this day.

In my eyes, The Band is a group that truly will last forever. They were the most faithful to their art without selling out to anyone. God Bless The Band!

The Canadian Piano Man – Burton Cummings

February 9, 2008 by Chris

Well I must admit that this guy in my eyes is Canada’s answer to Billy Joel. The way Burton Cummings makes tunes that still to this day brings goose bumps to the back of my neck! The way his songs are built up in such intricate voicings is pure genius. His songs flow in and out of pop one minute then followed up with such rocking force is a real gift from God.

One of my favorite nurses at work is just gaw, gaw over him. She always Burton Cummings him when he blows through our fair city with her husband no matter the cost of admission. Her music appreciation is similar to mine and we’re the same age.

The other day her, a doctor and myself got into a discussion about if they would see Led Zeppelin if they went on tour and to my amazement, they said they would not! I still respect her music tastes but with a little bemusement in my eyes!

So this posts for you “Y”!

Keep on Jammin’
