The Wangcaster: a guitar with balls

November 15, 2009 by Chris

This custom made guitar, the Wangcaster, is certainly something that I would never want to play … at least in public!

The guitar, according to it’s maker, started off as a Cort Stratocaster.

He bought it on-line and started to take it apart just for the fun of it. These things are quite cheap you know. The guy then found out that it is basically made of plywood, you get what you pay for!

He then thought that he’d get a piece of Cherry wood and made the body of the guitar. The guy then picked up some maple for the headstock (no pun intended!) then created a pick guard and there you have it.

The band Cinema Face

November 12, 2009 by Chris

Cinema Face is the best progressive art-rock band that I have ever seen play in Brantford. The band was playing in Brantford in a popular bar called Alexanders Tavern.

This band stopped me dead in my tracks and left me, not to mention everyone else in the bar, screaming for more.

They had all these tv sets beside the stage that featured holographic images on them. They also had these black light effects that blew my mind, a first for me at a the local level as well as a phenomenal light show!

The band members of Cineman Face were Frank La Magna (guitar, vocals) Armin Hart (keyboards, vox) Randy Infuso (drums, vocals) Darryl Peterson (bass, vocals).

The band played at variable clubs throughout Ontario and started building a small fan base over their 13 years together. While the band faltered in Canada, they finally gained some ground in Europe and Japan. In Germany, the band gained near legendary status!

Even though they did not achieve overall commercial success they tried their utmost but came up short. Finally in 1983 Cinema Face recorded a self-titled album, which was released under the Red Sun Records label. Though the band had already called it quits by 1994, their debut was then re-released on the Pacemaker Records label. The album did well enough to bring Cinema Face back to life in 1996 to complete a sophomore offering, Face Card.

This is a video of the band playing at the old Gasworks in Toronto in 1983. For those who are not aware of this Toronto landmark, it was the bar that Wayne and Garth went to in Wayne’s World.

Below are some links to check out if you were a fan of the band and you want to pick up some of the bands CD’s for your collection!

The “Show me how to play” website – Top 10 Downloaded Songs

November 9, 2009 by Chris

The site Show me how to play is for all you beginner musicians out that may want to start a band and might need a little bit of guidance in the right direction.

The video lesson instructs each member of the band how to play their instrument. The players in the exercise play together on one screen, that is split into 4 or more sections. The only way to describe this is to call this a true group lesson.

I just stumbled across this site and thought it would be neat to show you guys. It may not be for you accomplished musicians out there so go easy on me! I think that if you can learn something from this service then all the better. As they say, the worst thing you could do is learn something from it.

All they say you have to do is simply register, download the multiplayer software and check out the tunes on the site. The top 10 downloads for this site is …

  1. All Right Now
  2. Sweet Home Alabama
  3. Creep
  4. Come Together
  5. 99
  6. Smooth
  7. Clocks
  8. Vertigo
  9. I Heard It Through the Grapevine
  10. Space Oddity

So my question to you is, is this something that you might use if your a beginner? Also has anyone out there subscribed to this site and if so, do you think it’s worth signing up for?
