Guitar world

March 10, 2008 by Chris

I was at our pharmacy the other day picking up some meds for my wife and I had to wait for the quit a while for the prescription to be filled. As everyone knows, there is only so many things you can do to pass the time waiting in any pharmacy, so I picked up a guitar magazine. While browsing their selection I came across Guitar World, the one with Eddie & Wolf Van Halen on the cover.

I took the book out of it’s plastic cover and started to leaf through it. The articles were interesting enough and the behind the scene photo’s of Zeppelin’s reunion concert was worth the price!

The one thing that caught my eye was this CD/DVD that came with it. It had Lenny Kravitz Exclusive Lesson on the cover of it, (ahhhh) and other video’s about “Special Riffs” and “String Bending” … When I got home I put the CD into the old computer and checked it out!

They had all sorts of stuff on it but the best was from this guitarist called Phil X. His little thing on this was called ” Betcha can’t play this, with Phil X“(I realize that his video on the DVD is not up there right now, but wait a month to try this out, you’ll see what I mean!).

It was about this speed freak on guitar playing this riff on his axe, at around MACH 5 no less!!! He did it a couple of times and then slowed it down one time to let us mere mortals to watch in real time. He reminded me of Wayne and Garth so much that I just had to share this with all of you!

Keep on Jammin’

The great how to Kazoo campaign

March 10, 2008 by Chris

Join thousands of us in the campaign to make the kazoo the U.S. national instrument!

Watch this real campaign video, write your congressmen, and most importantly, learn HOW TO KAZOO. You can do your part to keep the world just a humming!

It’s also a gateway to musical stardom for those musically/rhythmically challenged, but not so much for those with no pitch control!

Keep on Jammin’

Canada’s Dan Hill

February 18, 2008 by Chris

I must have been living under a rock or something like that for a while now, but I just found out that Dan Hill is Canadian. Plus, he lives in my neck of the woods in a area called the “The Beach” or some call it “The Beaches”. As it turns out, there are tons of musicians who live or lived in our area.

I found this out by reading my Maclean’s Magazine on the Feb., 25th, 2008 version. The article was written by Dan Hill and his son. It was about his son’s friend, and how he got in trouble with the law. It told the tale of how this person almost destroyed his family and how they got through it in one piece.

After reading this article before going to work the other day, I asked people at work if had met him and some of the older nurses said yes they had. He was just like a everyday guy with looks that kill. He started out his career playing in little venues like The Riverboat in downtown Toronto which most of the staff remember seeing him play there.

I like some of his music but not enough to go out and buy all of his albums. It would be neat to see him live and maybe go backstage and chat or jam, but I can say that I’m not that big of a fan. I just thought I’d tell you about this one.

Keep on Jammin’
