Our new Kindle 2 eBook Reader has just arrived!

May 11, 2010 by Chris

Our new Kindle 2 eBook Reader showed up a day early and I couldn’t be more excited! Well truth be told, if a 1957 Strat was delivered in place of the Kindle then I guess I’d be REALLY EXCITED! Sorry, just had to get that one out of my head.

After taking our dog Midnight out for her morning walk and just before giving her, her breakfast a UPS driver knocked on the door sending Midnight out of her mind. All I was thinking was how to keep her from waking my wife up with her barking! As I opened the door she ran out to investigate and welcome the driver with lots of licks, I actually know him from work. After all the commotion had ended he handed me a package and right there I knew that it was the kindle!

So my wife just got up and we opened the package. The packaging was easy to open and quite sturdy looking. The screen of our new Kindle instructed us to turn it on and the welcome screen showed up after taking a few seconds to load up the program.

I picked it up and I was the first one to turn a page on the Kindle – kind of cool! This thing reminds me of something from Star Track! The reader is set up for easy use if your a left or right handed readers. My wife then hit the button Aa that is directly to the right of the spacer bar on the Kindle’s keyboard. It activated a menu that allows you to initiate the Text-to-Speech software. You have the option to use a male or female voice. The default setting is set to use a male voice. Damn it sounds a lot like the genius Stephen Hawkings!

Later on today we are off to an appointment and hopefully we can download one of the new books that my wife had uploaded to her laptop yesterday before leaving. I know this is not music related post but when we start becoming more literate with this thing, we’ll try all the music related options that comes with it. Wish us luck!

Keep on Kindlin’

Bruce Cockburn to play at this years 2010 Luminato Visual Arts and Fashion Programs Festival in Toronto!

Cockburn’s showcase will also feature singer-songwriter Michel Rivard and guitarists Michael Occhipinti(please check out High Romance) and Colin Linden(some great guitar playing on Big Mouth). Luminato will pay tribute to the Canadian’s greatest singer/songwriter/guitarist Bruce Cockburn at its annual Canadian Songbook event, set for Massey Hall on Wednesday June 16, 2010 at 7:30 PM.

Bruce will be on stage with a stunning assortment of musical talent celebrating his contribution to music. Hawksley Workman, Margo Timmins, Michel Rivard, Michael Occhipinti and Colin Linden. If last years tribute show to Neil Young in any indication of what this years show will be like then it will be a must see event! Also last years Luminato attempted, with your truly in the audience, to break the Guinness World Book of Records for the most guitarist in a musical ensemble. We played Helpless from Neil Young.

The show is called The Canadian Songbook with tickets starting for $55-125 (Cdn). Hope to see ya there!

New iPhone Six-String App

March 20, 2010 by Chris

iPhone has just released this really neat phone App that seems like a lot of fun and it’s much more challenging that damn Guitar Hero game!

This phone application tests a person’s finger dexterity as well as developing better hand eye co-ordination. The practical applications that this App, for both guitar players or non guitar players, is actually very impressive if you look at it from a therapeutic point of view.

This phone App can be used for people who might have had damaged nerve endings in their fingers, developed carpal tunnel or have recently suffered from a stroke. Think about it for a second here folks. It certainly can help the brain relearn finger functions and also provides proper finger exercises to help rebuild their strength! It’s fairly cheap and for a non guitar player it can give them a far better idea of how an actual guitar works.

I’ve never tried this thing out because I don’t have an iPhone but it makes sense to me. I’ll bring this to attention of my neurosurgeon or physiotherapy friends at work and inquire what they think about it!

Check out this link to see what I am talking about!

Keep on Jammin’
