Off to see Bruce Cockburn, Neil Peart & Jeff Tweedy

March 21, 2011 by Chris

My beautiful wife Tricia, just got us some tickets to see Bruce Cockburn, Neil Peart and Jeff Tweedy being interviewed by George Stroumboulopoulos today! The show will be in the CBC building in downtown Toronto and I would not miss this for the world.

(side note: I wish I thought about telling you earlier Dom and Julian because I would of at attempted to get each of you guys tickets, at least to see the drumming god Neil Peart of RUSH.)

I believe that Bruce will be on to promote his 31st studio album Small Source of Comfort on True North Records.

I’ve seen Bruce before in Chicago and Mississauga but this will be a nice setting. Just him and George chattin’ together in a small studio. I’m bring my Larrivee in the hopes that he’ll sign it.

So wish me luck on getting to meet him after the show and get his signature!

Keep on Jammin’

Really dedicated to the cause

December 26, 2010 by Chris

With some genres of traditional music quickly going by the wayside in our ever evolving society, these older guitarists from Myanmar have my undying respect! Image being one of the last few remaining musicians that once accompanied silent films in theaters with their instruments. Think about the emotional experience that the musicians would be go through performing at a show like that when silent movies were the only show in town?

Personally I can say that playing in a band during a musical play was fantastic. I had the honour of playing in the band for our high school musical called Godspell. I can still hear the musical director, a self proclaimed tone deaf man, who always said “Damn it, HIWATT‘s should have wheels”! The live experience that you get while being part of something like this is something to cherish forever. All the miscues in during some parts of a show, starting in the wrong key or just plain not playing a song at all.

So check out this link to an LA Times article to see what I’m talking about.

Keep on Jammin’

Iggy Pop down the street and around the corner

June 19, 2010 by Chris

Iggy Pop is a man on a mission. His own mission, that is. What it is, only he is privy to it.

I never believed that U2 wanted to save the whales. I don’t believe that The Beastie Boys are ready to lay it down for Tibet.
Iggy Pop

I’ve never been a real big Iggy Pop lover but the man on stage is raw and inspiring. He work with the stooges is well known and now the man and his band is set to play in Toronto at the Yonge-Dundas Square stage. It’s all part of the NXNE Festival concert line up this year.

I’d love to go and check his show out live tonight but I have previous plans for today that cannot be changed!

I just found out about the show yesterday morning after coming home from an early doctors appointment down the street from Yonge-Dundas Square.

I was walking to the subway to go home and get ready for work when I saw the stage being set up, so I had a few minutes to spare, so I just walked around a bit. I saw this cool older couple sitting a this outside venue at a table and they were having a smoke and a coffee. So I walked up to them and asked then what was up and they told me of the show. Damn, not enough time to change our plans.

Has anyone out there seen these guys live? Am I nuts for not ditching my plans today for the chance to see the great Iggy Pop and the New Stooges play that is 7.9 km (4.9 miles) away?

Keep on Jammin’
